Welcome to Purcell Bach Trust

The Purcell Bach Trust was set up in 2017 to ensure the security of the Purcell Bach at Tongaporutu, New Zealand.

History

Ross and Patricia Purcell

Ross and Trish purchased the land from Trish's brother Terry McKeon in 1958 (purchase agreement signed 27 July 1964) for 65 NZ Pound.

The Bach

The Bach was built in 1961 by Henry and Don Smillie, with Ross as a Labourer. The original design was a L shaped one bedroom Bach with a kitchen, sitting room and shower. A long drop toilet was built next to the Bach.

Tongaporutu Baches

The 26  Tongaporutu Baches comprise the Tongaporutu River Baches Historic Area. The New Plymouth District Council and Taranaki Regional Council manage the leases for the Bach and the area.
